“Life is a beach, I’m just playing in the sand”

Does anyone else feel like October is flying by?! It seems like there is something going on every weekend and I LOVE that. This weeks BIG exciting thing I’m looking forward to is my sister going into labor. She is due on Friday but I think Sienna will come before that. I get to be in the delivery room and I am so excited. No matter what I’m doing, I’m going to stop everything and head over to the hospital. I keep checking my phone while at work to make sure I don’t have any missed calls or text messages. 🙂

I was super busy over the weekend but all fun stuff. I don’t think I had a chance to rest on Saturday until maybe 10 pm but the whole day I was on the move. It was anything and everything from cutting my sisters hair, helping with the cake, helping my mom with her fake eye lashes…it gets crazy at that house. We were all getting ready to go party at night.

I thought I would feel too tired to boogie since I had run 10 miles that morning but I wasn’t 😉 You see Sienna in the top pic…she is HUGE. haha. (so is the pimple on my forehead) haha

My mom and dad. My dad is a cowboy and loves his cowboy hats.

These are the cupcakes and cake we helped my mom decorate. She did all the baking and basically told us what to do. She loves making cakes but when it’s “cake day” at my mom’s house….that means serious business.

We had a lot of fun, the only thing I regret is not having a piece of the cake. My mom made an extra tier to keep at home and my sister told me to get a piece but I decided to wait to eat a piece at the party. I didn’t want to end up eating more than 1 piece, well I ended up with no piece 😦

After the party it was time for bed, I set out my gear and slept like a baby. I actually slept in until 6am. It’s sad when that is sleeping in.

We got there around 7:30 and the race started at 8:20. We put our bib#’s on and walked around for a bit.

There are so many people who do the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. It’s pretty awesome.

This was our 2nd year running it together, before that I ran it with my sister. We told her she has to run it with us next year.

This is our State Capital.  Craig and I toured it once on our day off. It was really cool inside.

I had a little bit of Jamba Juice but not too much because my stomach was already bothering me and I didn’t want to aggravate it.

We knew that the beginning of the race is pretty tight because there are so many people. I don’t think anyone runs this for “time” anyway, especially since it’s not even timed.

I always end up getting a knot in my throat when I run this race. I read the back of people’s shirts and it really touches me. Breast Cancer affects so many people, I’m glad that we get to be a part of the fight against cancer.

At this point I wasn’t feeling well, I walked while I drank water and I still hurt so I decided to just keep running. I guess I didn’t feel that bad if I was still posing 😉

Running this race makes me feel blessed and so thankful for everyone and everything in my life. I’m very lucky to have such amazing people around me. I never want to take it for granted and I want to truly enjoy every day. I feel like I do..  “Life is a beach, I’m just playing in the sand” 🙂

After the run we took it easy for the remainder of the day. We watched football most of the day and just relaxed. I was happy that I participated for a great cause for the 2nd year with my love and also that I ran 13.1 miles over the weekend 🙂 Yeah baby!!

Question: Do you ever get emotional when doing a race for a specific cause? Any race that is closer to you for a particular reason?

  1. Yep! I pretty much get emotional at any race. I know how much work everyone (including myself) put into their training.

Btw what pretty cakes your family makes!!!

wow those cakes are amazing! i get emotional when they’re cancer related. i did a race last year that had special bibs that we could write who we were running for and put them on our backs. really emotional.

I haven’t run a whole lot of races, but I noticed at the Disneyland Half Marathon, I was reading people’s shirts and I got really teary too! Maybe it was just a really emotional day for running. hehe.

I love October – so many fun things going on!! I got choked up when I ran Pat’s Run a couple years ago. At one point, some Army guys ran past in full attire/boots holding the American Flag. It was really, really cool.

  6. […] October- Susan G. Komen 5k […]
